Sometimes you have to start over…


Yesterday I spent close to seven hours replying to email. The last few months I’ve had this pent of tension, almost anxiety as I’ve allowed my two inboxes to collect over 2400 emails. I had no clue what emails were important and what emails could be deleted.

Email changed a lot for me in 2010. It’s not that I get a ton of email. The problem now; each email is connected to an action step or a key question that needs to be researched or thought-through. Of course, all the travel creates it’s own set of complexity with email management!

Finally I gave up. I sifted through them as quickly as possible hoping to locate the important emails. Then I archived the rest. I can’t tell you how good that felt. I’m FREE!!!

The lesson is simple. Sometimes you have to start over. You have to hit delete. It’s good for productivity. I may have to apologize to a few people whom I did not respond to. But, It’s worth it.

Now I can do better moving forward!
