Chaos and Mission

It’s early Sunday morning. The past few weeks have been furious. Travel, speaking, fundraising and trying my best to prepare for our summer trips to Haiti and Africa.

Then I get the “oh snap, that just happened,” phone call. Our Haiti plan literally just blew up in our face. What do we do now? The good news, I know God is always taking care of me, even when I don’t “get it.” So, I lean into that place of understanding.

That said, life is crazy busy… it’s like the universe jumps into a car, pushes down the gas-pedal and off we go…

I love this… I hate this. Trying to find balance, is crap. I don’t believe in balance. But, I do believe in rhythm. Rhythms are spiritual, they’re important. I’m not the messiah, the Messiah tells us to rest, breathe, relax. I need to obey!

The messiah, himself, also worked incredibly hard… he had moments of pure exhaustion. To me, this is when you could see the “man” side of Jesus.

It just seems so complex. I know I need to “change” something.  I know my “pace” can’t last forever. I’m fully aware of this. But, I’ve lost some hope that we can actually find the gold at the end of the rainbow – that place where all of life is thriving, in a healthy way.

Life stuff, like paying bills, taking care of kids, and blah, blah, blah.

There is simply NO perfect answer. But, we must make sure that we’re being intentional and listening to those around us. Here are some questions I’m currently asking myself:

1) Is God telling me to slow down? (Yes)
2) Are my family and friends worried about my pace? (YES)
3) How’s my health? Am I eating well, exercising, and sleeping? (No)
4) Has my calling become an idol? If God took Help One Now away, how would I respond? (?) 🙂
5) How are my teammates? Do my staff, partners and donors get the proper attention they deserve from me, or do they sense that I’m overwhelmed?

Fact is, life is really busy and it’s not going to slow down. Therefore, it’s my job to make sure that I control my life, and not allow “life” to control me.

How are you doing with rhythms in your life?
